Costa Named NCBWA Division II Honorable Mention All-American

Full Release
WEST CHESTER, Pa.- The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its Division II Baseball All-America team on Wednesday afternoon ahead of the start of the Division II Baseball Super Regionals on Thursday afternoon. Julian Costa (Manuta, N.J./Clearview) continues his excellent final season as a Golden Ram, as he was named an Honorable Mention All-American by the NCBWA, as he appeared on at least 25 % of the ballots cast.

The NCBWA and Division II Conference Commissioners Association Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Year, this is Costa's first All-American citation, and he is the first Golden Ram to be named an All-American since Anthony Boccio was recognized by D2CCA in 2024. He is the first Golden Ram to earn an All-America citation from the NCBWA since Jared Melone earned NCBWA First Team All-American honors in 2019.

Costa is one of three PSAC players to be honored on Wednesday afternoon, as Brady McGuire of Seton Hill was selected as a Third Team All-American, while reliever Joe Morrissey of Millersville joins Costa on the Honorable Mention squad.

Costa is in the midst of a season for the ages as the redshirt-senior lefty tied the Golden Rams single-season win record in the NCAA Tournament opener on Thursday after breaking the Golden Rams career wins and strikeout records earlier this season. Following Thursday's victory vs Bloomsburg, Costa is 11-2 on the year with a 2.76 ERA and a .252 batting average against with 69 strikeouts in 75.0 innings of work, including four complete games and three shutouts. Costa is 2-0 in the postseason already, including a win in the PSAC Quarterfinals over Shepherd and a victory over Bloomsburg in the NCAA Tournament at Serpico Stadium on Thursday. The NCBWA Division II National Pitcher of the Week earlier this season, Costa also threw his second career no-hitter earlier this spring against Frostburg State, as he became the first and only Golden Ram to record two no-hitters in his career after becoming the first to record a no-no since 1947 last Spring in an early-season trip to Cary, North Carolina.

West Chester will be back in action later this week at Millersville for the Division II Baseball Super Regional Tournament against the Marauders, with a trip to the Division II Baseball National Finals in Cary, North Carolina, on the line. Off to its best start to NCAA Regional Tournament play since 2017, West Chester is in need of just two victories this weekend in a best-of-three with Millersville to punch its ticket back to Cary for the first time since 2022, while Millersville is searching for its first appearance since 2023.
