JOHNSTOWN, Pa.-Will Hilton (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) carded four birdies in his opening round, including the par-four third, fourth, and 17th, along with the par-five 11th, to lead the West Chester University men's golf team on the first day of the NCAA Atlantic/East Regional Golf Championships at Sunnehanna Country Club. Hilton is tied for sixth on the individual leaderboard with an even-par opening round of 70, while West Chester is tied for 11
th on the team leaderboard with an opening round of 295, just six strokes out of a tie for third and seven out of solo third, which would allow the Golden Rams to transfer to the National Championships.
Gannon, led by an opening round of 67 from Rasmus Seppanen, which has him tied atop the individual leaderboard, leads the team standings with an opening round of 285, followed by Winston Salem State in second at 287, and a three-way tie for third with Pitt-Johnstown, Wheeling, and Adelphi all with opening rounds of 289.
Hilton finished the opening round tied for second in par-four scoring average at 3.80 (-2) thanks to his three birdies on the par-fours of Sunnehanna on Thursday.
Yamato Kimura (Kuwana Mie, Japan/Monteverde Academy) is next on the Golden Ram leaderboard as he is tied for 30
th with an opening round of 73, as he carded one birdie on Thursday on the par-five 15
th.
