LOCK HAVEN, Pa. No. 4 West Chester outscored No. 3 Lock Haven 12-4 in the second half en route to an 18-11 victory in a critical PSAC contest at Lock Haven Saturday afternoon.
Stephanie Kienle registered a career-high six assists and a game-high nine points, and
Jackie Baker scored a career-high eight goals to lead the way for West Chester (3-0, 2-0 PSAC).
Lock Haven (2-1, 0-1) held a slim 7-6 advantage at halftime, but the Golden Rams persevered over the final 30 minutes of play. The Bald Eagles scored the first goal of the second half to push their lead to 8-6. However, the Golden Rams answered with three goals in just over three minutes to take a 9-8 edge.
Lock Haven then knotted the score at 9-all shortly thereafter. But, West Chester rattled off six of the games next seven tallies to open up a 15-10 advantage with seven minutes left to play. Baker sparked the run with four of her game-high eight goals during the spurt.
The Bald Eagles soared out of the locker room at the beginning of the contest, scoring the games first three goals in the first three minutes. The Rams closed the gap to within one on three separate occasions, maintaining their composure and handling adversity in the early going.
West Chesters experienced defensive unit of
Kimberlee Hachen, Carolyne Kacergis and Maureen Clifton teamed with goalkeeper
Mary Beth Green in limiting the Bald Eagles to just two goals over the games final 24 minutes.
Green picked up her second win of the season in goal, making six saves. Lock Havens Kira Nuttall stopped 11 shots for the hosts.
Chrissy Kane and
Mandy Masoner each registered two goals and one assist.
Nicole Haines potted two tallies as well. Lock Haven was led offensively by Lindsay Rentel, Jenna Richter and Jessica Blickenstaff, who each scored three goals and posted four points in the loss.
West Chester opens its home slate on Tuesday at 4 p.m. against Shippensburg.
