WEST CHESTER, Pa.
Chrissy Kanes third goal on the afternoon with 11:30 remaining in the first half broke open a 6-all tie, and West Chester led the remainder of the contest as the second-ranked Golden Rams defeated No. 5 Lock Haven, 23-17, Saturday afternoon.
West Chester (11-1, 9-0 PSAC) earned the sweep over Lock Haven (9-2, 7-2) in the season series. The Golden Rams defeated the Lady Eagles, 18-11, when the rivals met on March 24.
Stephanie Kienle registered five goals and a game-high eight points while
Nicole Haines tied her season-best performance with five goals and six points, and
Jackie Baker knotted five tallies to lead the way for West Chester.
Following Kanes goal with 11:30 remaining, the Golden Rams outscored the Lady Eagles, 5-2 during the final 11 minutes of the first stanza and held a 12-8 halftime advantage.
Lock Haven scored the first goal of the second half to cut its deficit to 12-9. However, the Golden Rams answered with four goals in three minutes to push their lead to 16-9.
Lock Haven rattled off the games next three tallies to pull within four (16-12) with 19 minutes left to play, when Baker ignited a 6-0 run for the Golden Rams with four of her game-high five tallies.
Lock Haven capitalized on a free position attempt with 7:09 left in the contest as Lindsey Rentel found the back of the cage, and the Lady Eagles rallied for five consecutive goals in a span of just over three minutes bringing them within 22-17 with 4:02 still to play.
Kienle capped the scoring as she tallied her fifth goal of the game with 3:13 left in the contest.
The Lady Eagles won the opening draw control and Amber Hoch found the back of the net just 17 seconds into the game, and Caitlyn Watts scored less than three minutes later for Lock Haven. It marked the only lead for the Lady Eagles during the contest. However, Lock Haven did come back from being two goals down to tie the score twice.
Mary Beth Green picked up the win in goal, making 15 saves while allowing 16 goals in 56:29.
Ally Livelsberger played just 3:31, making one save and allowing one goal. Lock Havens Kira Nuttall stopped nine shots for the visitors.
Kane registered four goals, while
Gina DiDomenicis potted two tallies. Lock Haven was led offensively by Leigh Titus, who posted four goals and five points. Jenna Richter and Hoch each scored three goals, and Richter posted seven points in the loss.
West Chester will be on the road on Wednesday, April 18, at 4 p.m. against Shippensburg.
