SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. The second-ranked West Chester Golden Rams showed no problem dispatching Slippery Rock, who is in the first year of its womens lacrosse program, shutting out the hosts, 24-0, Tuesday afternoon.
It marked the first shutout for West Chester since the season opener against Shippensburg in 2005. The Golden Rams (7-0, 5-0 PSAC) have now won their first seven contests of the spring and have a stranglehold on the top spot in the league standings as they try to get back to the national semifinals for the sixth time in the last eight years.
Six West Chester players registered hat tricks, including three reserves as the visitors emptied their bench early in the second half. The Golden Rams ran out to an 18-0 advantage by halftime.
Stephanie Kienle posted five goals and six points for the Rams, while fellow attackmen
Jackie Baker and
Chrissy Kane each registered five points with three goals and two assists apiece.
Baker maintains her team lead with 25 tallies on the season and 32 points. Both Kienle and Kane upped their season totals to 20 goals. Kienle now has 30 points in West Chesters first seven games and Kane 29.
Gabrielle Stitz Jenny Ingram and
Kasey Longergan each posted hat tricks as well. For Longergan, it was her first three goals of the freshmans career. Stitz and Ingram each recorded multi-goal efforts for the first time. Ingram finished with five points, adding two assists to her three-goal output.
Amelia Reed registered three points (1G, 2A) for the Golden Rams. Ten different West Chester players scored goals and 13 different players inked their name in the scorebook.
Ally Livelsberger received her second career start and was called upon to make just three saves. West Chesters defense limited Slippery Rock to just those three shots in the contest. Livelsberger (2-0) also picked up the win in the Golden Rams season opener opposite Regis (Colo.). She has allowed just five goals in 90 minutes of action this spring.
Senior co-captain and defenseman
Carolyn Kacergis scored her third career goal as well.
West Chester continues its PSAC West swing Wednesday with a contest at Indiana, Pa. Faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
