No. 9 West Chester Wraps Up PSAC East Title With 3-2 Win Over Shippensburg

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa.
– Sarah Oswald scored two goals and Brittany Yetter posted two assists as No. 9 West Chester clinched its fourth straight PSAC Eastern Division women’s soocer title with a 3-2 victory over visiting Shippensburg Saturday evening inside Farrell Stadium.

Oswald tallied off an assist from Yetter with 80 seconds left in the first half to break a 1-1 tie and put the Golden Rams (12-1-5, 8-0-4 PSAC East) in the lead for good. Her second goal of the game doubled that halftime cushion midway through the second frame.

Shippensburg (11-8-1, 4-7-1) was trying to play the role of spoiler. However, West Chester clinches at least a tie for the regular-season crown with Bloomsburg. The two schools were tied atop the league standings heading into Saturday. The Golden Rams were 1-0-1 against the Huskies this year and hold the tie-breaker should the two still remain tied after today’s action.

Rita Alton knotted things up for West Chester midway through the first half. Shippensburg had taken a 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the game.

Hilary Smart made two saves in goal for the Golden Rams. Beth Long made four saves for the Raiders in the loss.

West Chester will host Kutztown on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. on the soccer fields on South Campus in the PSAC Quarterfinals.
