WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester's women's tennis squad swept the doubles and took the first five singles matches to defeat visiting University of the Sciences (Phila.) Tuesday afternoon in a non-league match at the University's courts.
Maria Kostaris and Claire Afrassiabian teamed up at No. 1 doubles for a win (8-2) and also captured their singles matches for the Golden Rams (2-3). Kara Shumock and Teresa Grasso also pulled off that trick, teaming at No. 2 doubles for an 8-4 victory and taking third and fifth singles matches, respectively.
Bridget Dougherty and Chantelle Chaudoin teamed at No. 3 doubles for an 8-6 win. Dougherty won her singles match at No. 4, 6-3, 6-2. Chaudoin dropped her singles match at No. 6, 6-0, 6-2.
The victory ended a two-game skid by the women as they prepare for the PSAC individual championships later in the month of October.
