Princeton, N.J. – Kate Rada would not be denied in the final seconds, punching through the Shippensburg defense to pay dirt as time expired to lift the Golden Rams to a thrilling victory over the Raiders Saturday at the Eastern Pennsylvania Rugby Union Championships.
West Chester (4-3) will take on Delaware in the championship game tomorrow.
Rada’s try came after a dominating second half by the Golden Rams, who found themselves down 8-5 at the half. Shippensburg’s Natalie Monroi scored eight points for the Raiders in the first frame on a try and a penalty kick.
Mary Kay Heaton brought the Rams back in the 38th minute, making the score 8-5 at the break.
The second half was all West Chester, as the ball was confined to the Shippensburg end of the field.
Anna McGlade tied the score at 8-8 with a penalty kick in the 49th minute.
The score remained tied until a last-ditch push by the Golden Rams resulted in the game-winning score as the clock hit zero.
West Chester plays in the championship game of the EPRU tournament tomorrow at 2:15 p.m. at Windsor Field in Princeton, N.J.
