WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester University’s women’s tennis team swept all nine points from visiting University of the Sciences (USP) en route to an easy 9-0 victory Tuesday afternoon.
Maria Kostaris won at No. 1 singles in straight sets and then teamed with Kara Shumock at No. 1 doubles for a win. Claire Afrassiabian was a straight-set winner at No. 2 singles, shutting out her opponent, 6-0, 6-0, while also teaming with Bridget Dougherty at No. 2 doubles for an 8-1 win. Shumock split her first two sets with Bridget Frymoyer at No. 3 singles, but won the match tie-breaker, 10-4.
Teresa Grasso topped Jeanine DiPasquale, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5 singles, and West Chester’s Jessica Trahey won by default at sixth singles. West Chester (3-5) also picked up a default win at No. 3 doubles to close out the scoring.
West Chester returns to action on March 24 when the women host Lincoln University at 3:30 p.m.
