Game 1 Box Score
Game 2 Box Score

MANSFIELD, Pa. – David Slusser pitched a one-hitter in game one and Kyle Orensky hit a grand slam in the nightcap to lead visiting West Chester to a doubleheader sweep of Mansfield for the second time in as many days, 3-1 and 12-5, respectively, at Shaute Field on Saturday.

With the sweep, West Chester (21-8, 11-1 PSAC East) earned its second four-game series sweep of a conference foe this season. The Golden Rams also delivered third-year head coach Greg Mamula his 100th career victory, making him the fastest mentor in WCU history to 100 wins. Mansfield (10-22, 0-8) is still in search of its first league win.

Slusser (4-1) pitched a complete-game one-hitter in the opener, allowing a leadoff home run to Chris Miller in the bottom of the second inning. Slusser walked one and struck out one.

All four runs in game one were scored in the first two innings. West Chester jumped on top 2-0 in the first when Kevin McGrath led off the game with a double and was sacrificed to third by Nick Spisak. Matt Cotellese then scored McGrath on an RBI groundout. Blair Dameron hit his second home run of the year to stake the visitors to a 2-0 advantage.

Bob Stumpo homered in the top of the second to move that lead to 3-0. Miller homered in the Mountaineers’ half to close out the scoring.

Chris Zelko (2-3) suffered the loss, going the distance and allowing three runs on seven hits. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.

Orensky provided the power in the nightcap with his team-leading sixth home run of the year – a grand slam in the third that staked West Chester to a 7-1 lead. The Golden Rams would add four more in the fourth to put the game out of reach, 11-1.

West Chester jumped out in front early once more as McGrath led off game two in the same fashion as he did the opener – with a double. Dameron and Orensky later provided RBI singles, and Dameron scored on an error by the catcher to put the visitors up 3-0 after one.

Brett Moyer (5-1) started and pitched the first five innings. He allowed four earned runs on eight hits, walked two and struck out five. Eric Carmichael came on for the final two innings and surrendered just one hit and struck out one.

Tyler Noel (1-6) lasted just two innings for Mansfield. He gave up seven runs, five of which were earned, on seven hits. Andy Young came on and pitched three innings, giving up four runs on five hits. He walked one and struck out four. Bernard Johnson finished up, allowing one run and striking out two.
