WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester University’s women’s tennis squad shut out visiting University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (USP), 9-0, Friday afternoon in a non-league match.
West Chester (5-1), off to one of its best starts in a long time, did not drop a set in the win. Brittany Counts picked up her second straight win playing at No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 6-1 victory. Luisi Souto was a winner at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-0.
Ali Fetter, Claire Afrassiabian, Kara Shumock and Teresa Grasso were also singles winners. Afrassiabian was a 6-0, 6-0 victor at fourth singles. None of the four aforementioned players yielded more than one win in a set to their opponent.
Souto and Kara Shumock shut out their opponents at No. 2 doubles, 8-0. Allie Melhem and Jess Trahey won at third singles, 8-3. Counts and Fetter teamed up at first doubles for an 8-3 win as well.
West Chester is back in action on Saturday with a match with Chestnut Hill at 12 p.m.
