BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Mike Mattei threw a pair of touchdowns and D’Andre Webb busted off a 77-yard TD run early in the third quarter, but No. 16 Bloomsburg University held West Chester University in check the rest of the game en route to a 45-21 victory at Redman Stadium Saturday night.
West Chester (3-5, 3-2 PSAC East) saw its postseason hopes crushed by 16th-ranked Bloomsburg (7-1, 5-0), who is still very much alive for the division title.
West Chester was outgained 510 yards to 250 in the loss as the Huskies had two running backs eclipse 100 yards rushing in the contest. Webb ran for a team-high 83 yards on just three carries, thanks in large part to his 77-yard touchdown run three minutes into the second half that pulled the Rams to within a TD at 28-21.
However, Bloomsburg scored 17 unanswered points the rest of the way to put the game out of reach.
Sophomore QB Mike Mattei went 13-for-29 for 143 yards and two TD passes. He did not throw an interception. Freshman WR LaRonn Lee caught a TD pass in the first half, along with Tim Keyser.
West Chester travels to Kutztown next Saturday night for a 6 p.m. contest against the Golden Bears.
