UMass Downs Field Hockey, 3-0

WEST CHESTER, Pa.
– University of Massachusetts scored one goal in the first and added two more the second en route to a 3-0 win over host West Chester University in an Atlantic 10 conference field hockey match at Vonnie Gros Field on a cold and windy Friday afternoon.

West Chester (5-12, 1-5 A-10) dropped its fourth consecutive league match while UMass (12-6, 6-0) remains atop the league standings with its perfect mark.

UMass’s Kim Young scored 10 minutes into the contest off a ball bouncing around the circle from a save by West Chester’s goalkeeper Kristin Arnold. Young found the opening and blasted the shot past Arnold.

Thando Zono scored the second goal for UMass 10 minutes into the second half to double the visitor’s advantage. The Minutewomen were awarded a penalty corner, and Katie Kelly set up a shot for Zono, who drove the ball home to make the score, 2-0.

Lindsay Bowman then made it 3-0 off another assist from Kelly.

Arnold (4-8) made six saves in the loss. UMass’ Alesha Widdall stopped four shots.

West Chester will be traveling to Saint Louis on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. for its season finale against the Billikens.
