MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - West Chester University’s men’s soccer squad ended its season on another high note with a 1-1 draw at Millersville University in a double-overtime thriller on a cold Saturday afternoon.
West Chester (6-9-2, 1-6-2 PSAC East) finished up its final three games of 2010 unbeaten with one win and a pair of ties against three teams ranked in the top 10 in the Atlantic Region. First-place Millersville (11-4-2, 5-3-1 PSAC East) must now sit and wait for the remaining games to be played on Saturday night to see if the Marauders can hold on to their shaky one-point lead in the league standings.
The Golden Rams’ play down the stretch was reminiscent of how they began 2010 back in the first week of September, scoring 10 goals in two games and opening 2-0. Those flashes of brilliance are an omen for the rest of the PSAC to how this young men’s soccer squad is capable of playing. West Chester closes the 2010 campaign as one of the hottest teams in the region.
Millersville’s Kyle Loughlin scored his eighth goal of the season 13 minutes into the game with an assist from Andrew Dukes and Matt Kadoch to give the host Marauders a 1-0 advantage early.
In the second half, West Chester answered with an unassisted goal from freshman Conor Malarney, who finishes his first collegiate season with a team-high eighth goal of the year. Both goalkeepers played the entire game with West Chester’s Peter Weiss making a total of six saves while Millersville’s Matt Langione had four.
