WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Brittany Miller scored three trys while Cheryl Johnson, Sara Glick and Laura Meier all scored twice to lead host West Chester to a non-league victory over visiting West Virginia, 86-0, on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at John A. Farrell Stadium.
West Chester (5-4) scored four trys in the first four minutes and never looked back, taking a 24-0 lead almost immediately. Megajn Lamb converted three trys in the first half and finished with six points. Johnson's two trys were both long runs of 50 meters or more. She busted up the middle at the 5:56 mark and then scooted down the sidelines at the 13:54 mark.
The Golden Rams set five team records in the win.
Ali Vandermay, Miller and Meier each scored within an eight-minute span in the first half that made the score 51-0. Maureen Rae then went over the try line in injury time to close out the first half scoring.
Meier and Mary Kate Heaton scored two minutes apart early in the second half. With head coach Tony DeRemer freely substituting throughout the match to get his younger players experience, Alex Dicicco registered her first career try at 52:38 of the second half.
West Chester is off until March 20 when the Golden Rams travel to Charlottesville, Va., to take on Virginia in the first round of the Mid-Atlantic Rugby Football Union (MARFU) Tournament.
