NEWARK, Del. – Visiting West Chester University had its way with host Delaware in a non-league women’s rugby match south of the border Saturday afternoon.
For the Golden Rams (3-0), the season keeps on rolling in the right direction. West Chester got four trys and five conversions from Anna McGlade for 30 points while Jackie Sacco put up four trys of her own for a total of 20 points in an 80-0 victory over Delaware.
MaryKay Heaton scored a pair of trys as West Chester lit up the scoreboard with 51 points in the first 40 minutes. The Golden Rams first scored in the second minute of the game and took off from there.
“We really starved Delaware of any possession time,” WCU head coach Tony DeRemer said. “I would estimate we held possession of the ball for approximately 70 of the 80 minutes.
It marked the third straight game this season that West Chester had a player with at least four trys in a contest. The 80 points in the match are the second-most by a Golden Rams team in program history.
Ariel Johnson registered her first career try in the win.
