WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Sparked by a dramatic second-set comeback, visiting Lock Haven swept host West Chester, 3-0, inside Hollinger Field House Saturday afternoon in a PSAC East women’s volleyball match that was billed as a battle for first place in the division.
West Chester (13-7, 4-4 PSAC) led Lock Haven (8-6, 5-2) by a 23-16 margin in the second set and looked like it was on its way to evening up the match at one game apiece when the wheels came off the wagon. The Lady Eagles rallied for a 27-25 win and then rode that momentum to a 25-12 victory in the clinching third set. Lock Haven won the opening set 25-22.
West Chester hit just .100 for the match, failing to creep above that mark in each of the last two sets while committing 17 hitting errors in the first and second sets combined.
Kelly Martin posted a team-best eight kills. Lexi Kegerise had seven. Helen Fitzpatrick recorded 18 assists while Mary Faust dished out 12. Lisa Campbell led the squad with nine digs. Cara Reese registered five blocks in the match as well.
Lock Haven strengthened its hold on first place in the Eastern Division with the win. West Chester still resides in second place with matches against Millersville and Cheyney left in the first go-around with divisional foes.
