WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester University’s women’s swimming & diving squads earned a pair of wins at its season-opening tri-meet with Southern Connecticut State and Shippensburg Saturday morning inside Graham Natatorium.
The Golden Rams topped Southern Conn. State, 224-102, while defeating PSAC rival Shippensburg, 233-134. West Chester, which won 10 of 11 events on Friday, picked up three more wins on Saturday. Kacie McNichol got things started off nicely with a win in the 1650-yard freestyle, finishing just ahead of teammate Kendall Somer. McNichol timed out in 17:45.20 while Somer touched in 17:57.63.
Alexis Grier and Codyanne Murtaugh turned the same trick in the 1000 free, placing first and second, respectively. Grier won in a time of 10:40.51 while Murtaugh put up a time of 10:56.36.
The 400 medley relay team of Megan Winslow, Amelia Buckley, Alexis Walley and Emily Stang was the only other winner on Saturday for West Chester. They posted a time of 4:05.28.
Up on North Campus in Hollinger Field House Friday night, Michelle Heinemann won the 1-meter springboard diving competition, and teammate Kelsey Tennett won the 3-meter event. Heinemann posted 242.25 points while Michelle Murphy was runner-up with 208.15 and Tennett third with 203.65.
Tennett won the 3-meter with 252 points. Heinemann was second with 240.40.
West Chester travels to Division I Lehigh on Oct. 19.
