West Chester Rugby Ties Navy, 15-15

Box Score

ANNAPOLIS, Md.
- West Chester University's women's rugby squad erased a pair of 10-point deficits, and Beth DeMassa scored a game-tying try in the final minute of play, as the visiting Golden Rams tied host Navy, 15-15, in the spring opener Saturday afternoon.

West Chester (5-1-1) fell behind 10-0 at the half, and later trailed 15-5 with one minute left. However, DeMassa ploughed over the try line with 30 seconds left in regulation to even things up on a sunny, cool Saturday afternoon.

Navy (5-1-1) scored first-half trys in the 33rd minute and the 40th minute to take their initial lead. However, Anna McGlade scored in the 66th minute to cut the deficit in half. Navy captain Jen Sandifer restored the 10-point advantage in the 76th minute, and it looked as though West Chester might not come all the way back.

That is when DeMassa scored very late for the Golden Rams to even things up.

West Chester will be back in action on March 3 when the Rams travel to Rutgers for a non-league match.
