WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Freshman Brittany Sicinski tied her season-high with 21 points while Alexandra Lennon scored 12 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and blocked 4 shots, but host West Chester could not catch visiting Bloomsburg down the stretch, eventually falling, 64-54 Saturday afternoon.
West Chester (13-10, 10-9 PSAC) dug itself a 20-point hole in the first half and did not have enough left to overtake Bloomsburg (18-5, 14-5) down the stretch.
The Golden Rams went on a 21-7 run to open the second half and cut the deficit down to six (44-38) midway through the frame. That was answered by a 9-2 spurt from the Huskies to push the advantage back into double figures at 13 (53-40) with 7:42 still to go. Senior Dana Wieller accounted for seven of those nine points during that run.
Sicinski single-handedly put the Rams back into the contest when West Chester went on a 13-7 run over a six-minute span that narrowed the lead to seven , 60-53, with 1:02 to play. The local product from Downingtown West High School put up eight of the Golden Rams’ 13 points.
However, Wieller made three foul shots in the final minute of play to keep the hosts at bay. She finished with 19 points, including 11 from the free throw line. Brianna Dudeck added 10 points off the bench for the Huskies as well. In all, Bloomsburg was 24-for-29 from the charity stripe in the game.
West Chester held Bloomsburg to just a 32.7 percent shooting effort from the floor (17-for-52), but the Golden Rams made just six baskets in the first half and trailed 37-17 after 20 minutes. WCU committed 30 turnovers and was outrebounded in the game, 39-34. Bloomsburg scored 31 points off West Chester’s turnovers.
Senior Ambreelinne Ortman grabbed 10 rebounds to lead all players in the game.
West Chester returns home on Wednesday to face Shippensburg in its final regular-season home game of the 2012-13 campaign.
