Bloomsburg’s Second Half Shooting Sinks West Chester Women, 88-80

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Bloomsburg scored 57 points in the second half, erasing a double-digit lead to come away with an 88-80 victory over host West Chester University in a PSAC East women's basketball showdown inside Hollinger Field House Saturday afternoon.

West Chester (11-6, 6-1 PSAC East) maintained a 1 ½ game lead on the rest of the Eastern Division thanks in part to cross-county rival Cheyney's upset over Millersville Saturday. Bloomsburg (13-3, 4-2), Millersville and Shippensburg are all tied for second place in the league standings with identical 4-2 marks.

Bloomsburg's Catherine Noack scored 19 of her game-high 27 points after the break, going 5-for-6 from 3-point range and nailing all four of her foul shots. She did the bulk of the damage during a 16-5 run over a 2:39 period midway through the second half that saw the Huskies take the lead for good. She hit three triples in that crippling run, the last giving the visitors the lead (69-68) with 6:49 to play.

After a jumper from Brittany Sicinski (team-best 21 points), Bloomsburg's Jocelyn Ford (17 points) converted a layup that put Bloomsburg in front for good, 71-70 with 5:43 to go. The Huskies ended the game on a 17-10 run to pick up the win.

Bloomsburg shot 53.3 percent (16 of 3) from the floor in the second half, including 7 of 10 from beyond the 3-point arc. They also made 18 of 19 free throws after the break.  The Huskies finished the game 10-for-22 (45.5 percent) from 3-point land while West Chester knocked down just 3 of 20 attempts from downtown.

West Chester recorded 11 of its 15 steals in the second half, and Bloomsburg turned the ball over 29 times in the game overall. However, the Golden Rams could not keep up with the Huskies' shooting spree.

The 57 points allowed after halftime was a season high allowed by West Chester. It marked the third time this season that the Golden Rams led at the break, but surrendered better than 50 points in the second half and lost.

Dallas Ely scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds. Sicinski added eight rebounds to her 21 points. Kendall Benovy scored 12 points and hauled down seven boards. Jasmen Clark had five assists and four steals.

West Chester is off until next Saturday when it hosts East Stroudsburg at 1 p.m. inside Hollinger Field House. The rest of the PSAC will play on Wednesday while the Golden Rams enjoy its bye the first time around the league slate.
