West Chester Falls To West Virginia Wesleyan, 2-1, In Opener

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Visiting West Virginia Wesleyan scored a pair of unanswered goals in the second half to come from behind and defeat host West Chester University, 2-1, in a non-league men's soccer match at Rockwell Field Friday afternoon.

The Golden Rams' Alex Lean (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) put the hosts in front early with a goal in the 13th minute. However, that was the only offense Wes Chester could generate on the day as the Rams played short-handed with only three experienced starters in the first 11.

West Virginia Wesleyan netted the equalizer in the 55th minute, before scoring the game-winner in the 82nd minute.

Freshman Matt Palmer (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) made six saves in his first collegiate start. The Golden Rams were outshot by the measure of 16-4 Friday.

West Chester returns to its home pitch on Sunday for a non-conference affair with Pfeiffer at 12 p.m.
