Alex Caplan (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) converted a penalty kick and scored on a breakaway to lead host West Chester University to a 2-0 victory over visiting Pfeiffer University Sunday afternoon at Rockwell Field.
West Chester (1-1) avenged its season-opening loss with a win over Pfeiffer (1-1), who had upset No. 20 Millersville Friday afternoon.
The Golden Rams jumped out in front in the 78th minute when Caplan converted a penalty kick. Just four minutes later,
Brian Schaefer (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) sent a thru-ball up to Caplan from the midfield area, and Caplan went in on the Falcons' goalkeeper. He went low to the left side across the goal mouth to double the host's lead and close out the scoring.
Phil Horan (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Twp.) made four saves to record the shutout in net for West Chester.Nicolas Dulac made four saves as well for Pfeiffer.
West Chester returns home next Friday afternoon for another non-conference tilt against Wilmington (Del.) at 3 p.m. at Rockwell Field.
