West Chester Women Fall To Johns Hopkins In Dual Meet

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Emily Stang was a triple winner, and Lauren Carastro was a double winner, but it was not enough for homestanding West Chester to top Division III power Johns Hopkins, 159-123, in a non-league women's swimming & diving competition inside Graham Natatorium Wednesday evening.
 
West Chester (2-4) took first place in six events overall. Kendall Somer was the other Golden Rams swimmer to win an event.
 
Stang took first place in the 50-yard freestyle, 100 free and the 200 free to complete her trifecta on the night. Meanwhile, Carastro was a winner in both the 500 free and the 1650 free. Somer won the 100 breaststroke.
 
Stang posted a time of 25.28 seconds in the 50 free and 54.91 in the 100. Her time of 1:56.95 was tops in the 200 free as well. Carastro swam the 500 free in 5:16.19 while her time of 17:53.28 was tops in that event as well. Somer's winning time in the 100 breaststroke was 1:07.81.
 
The night before West Chester leaves town for some training in Florida, the Golden Rams picked up four second-place nods as well. Dani Barron was runner-up to Carastro in the 1650 free (18:10.65) while Morgan Haney was second to Stang in the 50 free (25.29). Alexis Walley placed second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:00.02 while the 400 free relay concluded the meet with a second-place showing, clocking a time of 3:43.18. Stang, Somer, Tess Hayward and Haney made up that foursome.
 
Hayward placed fourth in the 50 free with a time of 25.49 as West Chester claimed three of the top four spots in that event. Hayward was also third in the 200 free (1:58.35).
 
Kailyn Beil highlighted West Chester's efforts in the diving portion of the dual. She tied for second on the 1-meter springboard competition with a score of 204.45 while also placing second off the 3m board with a score of 229.10. Tory Clery was fourth in the 1m event with 181.5.
