West Chester Women Top East Stroudsburg, 67-51

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Dallas Ely (Montrose, Pa./Montrose) scored 17 points, 13 in the second half, and Serifat Junaid (Chesilhurst, N.J./Camden Catholic) added 11 as West Chester defeated visiting East Stroudsburg, 67-51, in a PSAC women's basketball contest Wednesday night.

West Chester (20-4, 16-4 PSAC) secured its first 20-win season since the 2011-12 campaign, which incidentally is the last time the Golden Rams made the NCAA Tournament. East Stroudsburg (10-14, 9-11) fell for the fourth time in its last five outings.

The Golden Rams cracked a double-digit lead within the first seven minutes of the second half with a 15-6 run that opened up a 17-point lead, 44-27, with 12:40 to play. The lead would eventually grow to 20 (59-39) with seven minutes to go in the game. Ely fueled the run to open the second half with six of her 13 after the break.

Ely added six rebounds and five assists to her 17-point night. Brittany Sicinski (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) was the model of consistency with seven points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals. Junaid added six rebounds to her 11-point night.

West Chester forced East Stroudsburg into 19 turnovers in the game while committing just seven themselves. That was the telling statistic of the contest.

West Chester opened the tilt shooting 1-for-12 from the field and fell behind, 12-5, in the first eight minutes. The Golden Rams found their stroke afterwards, going on a 24-5 run that gave the hosts a 29-17 advantage at the final media timeout of the first half. ESU's Jessica Martin posted nine points and six rebounds in those first eight minutes, controlled by the Warriors, but added just one offensive rebound and a bucket with 1:04 to go in the half to those totals.

East Stroudsburg closed the half with four points to pull within eight (29-21) at the break.

Jessica Martin finished with a double-double, including a game-high 23 points and 12 rebounds. However, she was the only Warriors player with over five points in the game. ESU shot 35.1 percent from the field (20-for-57) and made just two of 16 from 3-point range.

West Chester travels to cross-county rival Cheyney on Saturday for its final regular-season road contest. The Rams will return home one week from tonight for its regular-season finale in Hollinger when they honor senior forward Serifat Junaid on Senior Night.
