Box Score WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester held strong in the defensive zone to keep the Red Raiders of Shippensburg off the board in a 2-0 win inside Rockwell Field Saturday Afternoon.
The Golden Rams (6-2) outshot the Red Raiders 19-6 and 11-3 in shots on goal. Shippensburg (3-4-1, 2-4-1 PSAC) held West Chester's offense to zero goals in the first half, but could not hang on, allowing two goals in the loss.
Soph., F Marissa Valenti (Manassas, Va. / Osbourn Park) scored the first goal of the game in the 62nd minute to put West Chester up by one. It was also Valeteni's first goal of the season that ended up being the gamewinner.
Then, forward
Kara Parval (Whitehall, Pa. / Whitehall) with zero hesitation took a shot from the top of the circle that went over the goalkeepers head to put the Golden Rams up two goals to none. The goal was Parvals second in two games and sealed the deal for West Chester down the stretch. Freshman
Libbie Frazer (Boyertown, Pa. / Boyertown) provided both passes that set up Valenti and Parval for each score.
Junior goalkeeper
Alex Srolis (Chester Springs, Pa. / Downingtown East) recorded her fifth shutout in the first eight games, making three saves the entire game. She would get help from the Golden Ram's veteran defensive unit that kept the Red Raiders offense from hitting the back of the net.
West Chester will head to Millersville on Tuesday for a evening match up at 6:30 p.m.
