West Chester Drops Volleyball Match To Mercyhurst, 3-1

ERIE, Pa. - West Chester University dropped a 3-1 decision to host Mercyhurst University in a PSAC women's volleyball contest Friday night.

West Chester (18-9, 6-8 PSAC) won the opening set, but dropped the next three in succession to Mercyhurst. The scores of the sets went 23-25, 25-22, 25-19 and 25-21.

Karleigh Lutz (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) led West Chester with 14 kills while Emily Ahern (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) registered 32 assists in place of the injured Jillian Grammer. Bethany Gould (Camp Hill, Pa./Cumberland Valley) posted a team best 18 digs as well.

West Chester hit just .120 for the match, and Mercyhurst registered 12 blocks. The Lakers only hit .195, but they did manage to put three different players in double figures in kills. In fact, the Golden Rams recorded the lowest hitting percentage of the four sets (.071) in the first set - the set in which they won. West Chester's highest hitting percentage (.240) came in the fourth set - the set in which the Rams scored the fewest points in the match.

West Chester continues its weekend road trip Saturday at Gannon.
