Box Score WEST CHESTER, Pa. – It was neck-and-neck down to the wire when West Chester went on a 13-2 run to gain a 10-point advantage and eventually pull away from a determined Cheyney Wolves squad for its 11th-striaght victory on the season inside Hollinger Field House Wednesday evening.
The Golden Rams (19-5, 16-4 PSAC) jumped out to a nine-point lead (20-11) in the first period and kept Cheyney (4-20, 2-18 PSAC) at bay for the rest of the first half. The visiting Wolves eventualy pulled even to knot the game up at 30-30 in the third quarter. However, West Chester outscored Cheyney 18-11 in the fourth quarter to put the game away late. The Golden Rams ran their current winning streak to 11 games, it's longest since the 2002-03 campaign when current head coach Kiera Wooden helped the Rams to a 12-game win streak as a player.
With the win, West Chester clinched at least a share of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division regular-season title. A win in one of its last two games, or a Shippensburg loss in its final game next Wednesday, would give the Golden Rams the division crown outright. West Chester is guaranteed to host a PSAC second-round tilt at home on Tuesday, March 1.
Sr., forward
Anna Kuntz (Camp Hill, Pa./Trinity) registered a double-double in the first half and finished by matching her career-high of 22 points and 15 rebounds. Kuntz is averaging 18.3 points per game in the Golden Rams' last three contests, including Wednesday's affair.
Wolves' Kyra Hines-Allen recorded a team-high 24 points 18 points to lead the Wolves in the loss.
West Chester, ranked second in the NCAA Atlantic Region, hits the road for two games to end the regular season against Millersville this Saturday at 1 p.m. and then at Kutztown for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff next Wednesday evening.
