NEW HAVEN, Conn. – West Chester University opened up the new season winning 10 events in a tri-meet hosted by Southern Connecticut State with PSAC rival Shippensburg Friday night.

Off the diving boad, Dan Roy won the 1-meter springboard competition with a 305.40.

Victor Polyakov won the men's 500 freestyle in a time of 4:40.02.

A pair of WCU's 400 medley relay teams took the top two spots. The team of Austin Doss, Michael Oliver, Shota Nakano and Evan Sherkness won the event in a time of 3:30.16. Ben Francis, Thomas McCormick, Tommy Tomsuden and Sean White were right behind in 3:37.62.

Doss and Francis finished first and second, respectively, in the 100 backstroke. Doss turned in a time of 52.76 while Francis touched in 54.80.

West Chester swept the top three spots in the 100 breaststroke. Michael Oliver touched first in 58.48. Shota Nakano was second in 1:00.09 and Thomas McCormick was third in 1:01.58.

The Golden Rams also swept the top three spots in the 100 butterfly. Tommy Tomsuden won with a time of 1:55.31 while Victor Polyakov was second in 1:58.42 and Eric Long was third in 1:59.60.

Evan Sherkness won the 100 freestyle in 47.66. The top two spots in the 400 individual medley went to the Golden Rams as well. Victor Polyakov was the winner in 4:10.15 while Dylan North was second in 4:19.57.

The Golden Rams' 200 freestyle relay team of Tommy Tomsuden, Trent Groff, Ben Francis and Sean White was a winner in a time of 1:27.23. The Rams' 800 free relay team of Eric Long, Thomas McCormick, Austin Doss and Michael Oliver were first in 7:15.89. West Chester's other foursome in the event, Tommy Tomsuden, Dylan North, Trent Groff and Sean White were second in 7:16.82.

The second and final day of the tri-meet with Shippensburg and host Southern Connecticut State University gets under way Saturday morning.
