West Chester Rolls Past Mount St. Mary's, 67-0

-The West Chester University women's rugby team(2-4) took to the road on Saturday morning to face Mount St. Mary's (0-4)  with both sides looking to snap a three game losing streak. The Golden Rams would do just that as they went on to win by a final score of 67-0.
How it Happened:
  • West Chester broke through first when Juah Toe(York, Pa./Central York) broke through to give West Chester the early 5-0 lead.
  • A few minutes later Victoria Mellon(Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert Catholic) added a try of her own to give the Golden Rams a 10-0 lead halfway through the first half of play.
  • Alex Knepper(Hockessin, De./The Charter School of Wilmington) got in on the action with a try of her own to give West Chester the 15-0 lead just over halfway through the first half of play.
  • So. Sarah Kurczewski(Reading, Pa./Governer Mifflin) got on the board as she scored her first career try to give West Chester the 20-0 advantage.
  • Just minutes later Lili Riley(Doylestown, Pa./Montgomery) converted a turnover into a try and added a successful conversion to give West Chester the 27-0 lead at the half.
  • Riley opened the second half the same way she closed the first half as she scored a try less then a minute into the half and added a successful conversion to push the lead to 34-0.
  • Aalea Ray(Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) added a try of her own approximately seven minutes later to give West Chester the 39-0 lead.
  • Riley continued her big day as she scored another try and added another conversion to give the Golden Rams a decisive 46-0 advantage.
  • Riley added another try and a conversion to bring the lead to 53-0.
  • Sophia Monboussin(Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe) and Ray added tries of their own and thanks to conversions from Mellon and Alayna Roberts(Bellwood, Pa./Bellwood-Antis) to lead the Golden Rams to the 67-0 victory.
Inside the Numbers:
  • Kneppers try was her second of the year and second in the past contests.
  • Riley continued to extend her team lead in tries, conversions, and points as she recorded four  tries bringing her season total to 10 and added another four conversions bringing her total to 11 and total points for the year to 72 .
  • Ray recorded her seventh try of the season moving her points total for the year to 37.
  • Toe also tallied her second try of the season in the match bringing her total for the season to 10 points.
  • Monboussin's try was her third of the season.
  • Kurczewski recorded her first career try in the 53-0 victory.
  • Roberts conversion gave her two points on the day which were also her first career points as a Golden Ram.

West Chester continues their weekend road trip tomorrow when they travel to James Madison for an 11 am start.
