CHEYNEY, Pa. – A strong second half push by Cheyney allowed the Wolves to top visiting West Chester, 58-54, inside Cope Hall Wednesday night.
This was West Chester's first loss to Cheyney since the 2007-08 season, snapping a 20-game winning streak to its PSAC East rival in the low scoring affair.
Cheyney's Taschell Phillips knocked down a triple midway through the third quarter to give the Wolves (4-15, 4-14 PSAC) a lead they would never relinquish. West Chester (9-12, 9-8) was outscored 23-8 in the quarter as its shooting woes continued.
Head coach Kiera Wooden's squad shot 30.6 percent from the field (19-62) and 25 percent from the behind the arc (2-8).
Despite their struggles from the floor, the Golden Rams had their opportunities as they knotted the game up at 44 apiece in the beginning of the fourth quarter. Cheyney simply made plays down the stretch to hold onto the victory.

Madison Torresin (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) registered a team-high 13 points and added six boards in the loss.
Fellow forward
Jenna Widdicombe (Pottstown, Pa./Pope John Paul II) was in double-figures for the second consecutive game, accumulating 10 points and five rebounds.
In the backcourt,
Porscha Speller (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) chipped in 12 points and continues to crash the boards by grabbing seven rebounds.
TaKayla Ellis was a major contributor for the Wolves, producing 20 of her 21 points in the second half.
Cheyney's Marlon Herring played a significant role as well, adding nine points to go along with 21 rebounds. Herring's 10 offensive rebounds helped the Wolves with second chance opportunities in addition to helping her team outrebound West Chester by seven (46-39).
The Golden Rams have dropped back-to-back PSAC East matchups and will look to get back on track this weekend.
West Chester returns home on Saturday to host its seventh annual "Play4Kay" game inside Hollinger Field House against East Stroudsburg. There will be a doubleheader, beginning with the women's game at 1:00 p.m. Activities for the event start at 11:00 a.m.
