Rugby Storms Past Bloomsburg, 65-15

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - On a beautiful Saturday morning, West Chester University women's rugby team (1-1) took to the road to square off against the Bloomsburg University Huskies. The Golden Rams won by a final score of 65-15.

How it Happened
  • Grace Larko (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area HS)  scored the first try of the game in the opening minutes and after a successful conversion by Lili Riley(Doylestown, Pa/Montgomery) West Chester held a 7-0 advantage.
  • Aalea Ray (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) would score a gorgeous try just minutes later and after another Riley conversion the Golden Rams would hold a 14-0 lead.
  • Just minutes later, Riley would break through for a try of her own and after another conversion the lead would grow to 21-0.
  • The offensive onslaught would not end there as a strong run by Ray would lead to her second conversion of the day. Another successful conversion from Riley grew the lead to 28-0.
  • Ray's huge first half would continue approximately ten minutes later when she would break through for her third conversion on the morning to give West Chester a 33-0 lead heading to the half.
  • In the second half, it was more of the same as Harley Divine(Alexandria, Va./West Potomac HS) scored and after a Haley Spangler(Gettysburg,Pa./Gettysburg) conversion the lead was 40-0.
  • Divine would not stop there as she broke through again just minutes later to move the lead to 45-0.
  • Bloomsburg would answer with a try of their own to bring the score to 45-5.
  • Sophia Monboussin(Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe HS) responded quickly to move the score to 50-5 in favor of West Chester. Juah Toe(York, Pa./Central York) scored a try of her own to make the score 55-5 in the second half.
  • Bloomsburg would score another try to make the score 55-10 still in favor of WCU.
  • The West Chester lead would continue to grow thanks in part to another try from Riley to give West Chester the 65-10 advantage late in the contest. The Huskies would break through one more time but it would not be nearly enough as the Golden Rams went on to win by a final score of 65-15.

Inside the Numbers
  • Ray had a huge day as she recorded three tries in the first half of play which was good enough for 15 points on the day.
  • Riley had a big day of her own as she recorded 1 try and four conversions through the first half of play ending the day with two tries and four conversions good enough for 18 points.
  • Larko and Monboussin recorded their first career try in the match this afternoon.
