WEST CHESTER, Pa.- Looking to get on its first winning streak of the season the West Chester University women's rugby team (3-4) was back in action on Saturday afternoon against Bloomsburg. West Chester cruised to victory winning by a final score of 95-15.
How it Happened:
- West Chester scored the first five try's of the game as Demi Showers (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) scored the first try of the game just 34 seconds in before Kylie Corless (Wrightstown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) added a try of her own. Lauren Madalian (Randolph, N.J./Randolph High School), Corrine Gallagher (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) and Tina Kimmich (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) all registered try's of their own and thanks to four successful Corless conversions West Chester was out to a 33-0 lead in the opening 20 minutes of play.
- Bloomsburg answered back with a try of its own in the 23rd minute to cut the deficit to 33-5 but this is as close as the Huskies would get as West Chester answered back with another 22-point run thanks to try's from Madalian, Autumn Czaplicki (Pillow, Pa./Line Mountain High School), Juah Toe (York, Pa./Central York) and Kimmich along with just successful conversions from Corless. These two runs allowed West Chester to carry a commanding 55-5 lead into the halftime break.
- In the second half, Bloomsburg opened the scoring with another try before West Chester added another 10 points courtesy of try's from Toe and Kelsey Diabo (Stroudsburg, Pa./Pleasant Valley) that were finished with successful conversion kicks from Corless to extend the lead to 71-10.
- Bloomsburg added one more try in the 52nd minute to make the score 71-15 but this was the Huskies final score of the day as West Chester added another 24 points to cruise to the 95-15 victory.
- Czaplicki scored three out of the Golden Rams four try's to end the contest while Hannah Evanik (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) added a try of her own, which combined with another two successful Corless conversions allowed West Chester to take easily pick up the victory.
Inside the Numbers:
- Diabo, Kimmich and Evanik all made some personal history this afternoon as they all recorded their first career points and try's in the 95-15 victory.
