Rugby Rolls New England on Senior Day

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Led by a 13-point performance by Kylie Corless (Wrightstown, Pa./Archbishop Wood), the West Chester University women's rugby team recorded their first shutout victory of the season on Saturday afternoon after defeating the University of New England 58-0 at home.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Autumn Czaplicki (Pillow, Pa./Line Mountain High School) recorded the first try of the afternoon at the 2:45 mark, before Corless added a conversion to put the home team in front 7-0 less than three minutes in. After a successful try by Corinne Gallagher (Coatsville, Pa../Coatsville) at the 8:36 mark put the Golden Rams in front 12-0, Corless would go on to score a try and an additional two conversions to put her squad in front 26-0 with just under 30 minutes to play.
  • Up 26 points, try's by Gallagher, Lauren Madalian (Randolph, N.J./Randolph High School), and Czaplicki helped extend the WCU advantage to 41-0 at the 42-minute mark.
  • After a try by Corless extended the West Chester cushion to 43-0, the home team went on to close out the afternoon with try's by Tina Kimmich (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West), Demi Showers (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) and Nicole Welker (Downingtown, Pa. /Downingtown East) to earn the impressive 58-0 victory on Saturday afternoon.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Corless paced the West Chester attack on Saturday with four conversions and a try to give the freshman a team-high 13 total points.
  • Gallagher and Czaplicki both notched two try's against UNE, to give the duo 10 points each on Saturday.
  • Saturday's victory marks the third in a row for WCU and brings the Golden Rams' overall record to 4-4 on the year.
SENIOR DAY
  • Prior to today's match, the Golden Rams recognized seniors Shannon Ferguson (King of Prussia, Pa../Archbishop Carroll) and Showers, along with senior athletic trainers Robert Heinz and Kiersten Bonsall.
UP NEXT
  • West Chester closes out the regular season on Saturday, November 10, when the squad travels to Annapolis, Maryland to square off against the United State Naval Academy.
