Women's Rugby to Host WCU 7's Tournament on South Campus on Sunday

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- The West Chester University women's rugby team is preparing for its annual home 7s Tournament on Sunday afternoon as the Golden Rams continue their spring 2026 campaign in West Chester.

Last Time Out

West Chester looks to bounce back this weekend after competing at the Navy Legacy 7s Tournament in Annapolis last weekend. West Chester went just 1-5-1 on the weekend last week as the Golden Rams purple squad went 1-3 and finished seventh in its Division, while the Gold team went 0-2-1 to finish fifth. West Chester picked up its lone win of the afternoon over LIU in the seventh-place game as Olivia Amann (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) gave West Chester an early lead before Sofia Lasonio (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) scored twice and Jade McCool (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) added a pair of conversions.

Keeping the Tradition

West Chester will look to win its home 7s Tournament for the fourth year in a row after capturing the crown for the third consecutive year with a 21-17 triumph over Navy in the Championship match. West Chester started its day with a 25-12 setback vs Navy before bouncing back with a 43-0 win over Frostburg State. West Chester followed this up with its first 7s win over Quinnipiac, 21-20, as the Golden Rams were a perfect 3-for-3 on conversion attempts. In the Championship match, Ty Hickey broke free for an 80-meter try early in the second half, which gave West Chester the 21-17 lead that the Golden Rams went on to win by.

Fan Advisory

Fans are advised that Sunday will be a busy day on South Campus as West Chester baseball will renew its rivalry with East Stroudsburg adjacent to the rugby pitch beginning at 1 p.m. There are also rental events occurring in the Sturzebecker Health Science Center throughout the weekend, which are expected to bring additional traffic to South Campus.

Weather Report

In stark contrast to the beautiful, sunny, 75-degree weather the Delaware Valley experienced on Thursday, Sunday will see a high in the low 50s under partly cloudy skies.

Up Next

West Chester will be back in action on April 19 at Frostburg State for the Frostburg 7s Tournament ahead of the Collegiate Rugby 7s Championships in Washington, D.C. at the end of April.
