PROVIDENCE, RI- The West Chester University women's rugby team was back in action this afternoon dropping a tight contest to Brown by a final score of 38-27.
How it Happened:
- West Chester grabbed an early lead in the seventh minute when Nicole Welker (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) registered her first career try and following a Kyle Corless (Wrightstown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) conversion the Golden Rams had their first lead of the season at 7-0.
- West Chester reverted to a pick and drive game with their forwards and found success in moving into Brown territory. Three pick and drive scores were generated by the Golden Rams as Welker, Demi Showers(MALVERN, PA. GREAT VALLEY) and Grace Larko(VANDERGRIFT, PA. KISKI AREA) all managed to record tries to bolster the West Chester offense in the first half.
- Brown answered back and managed to take a 17-19 lead into the half but West Chester remained undeterred as freshman Autumn Czaplicki (Pillow, Pa./Lane Mountain)broke through for a 30 meter scamper for her first career try as well to put West Chester back in front.
- Brown answered back once again scoring the next two tries to take a 31-22 lead with just 12 minutes left to play. West Chester did not give up driving into Brown territory before finishing that drive off with another try for Showers to cut the deficit to 31-27. Brown added one more try and a conversion to take the 38-27 victory over the Golden Rams.
