MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - West Chester University women's tennis began its season on Saturday. Junior
Julia Mowrey (Bethlehem, Pa. / Notre Dame) and freshman
Elaina Lee (Pottstown, Pa. / Owen J. Roberts) have advanced to Day 2 of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association regionals in both singles and doubles B brackets after going undefeated in each.
Lee beat a Fairmont State opponent 6-3, 6-2 in her lone singles match after receiving a bye. She teamed up with junior
Elaina Rochford (West Chester, Pa. / Henderson) to beat an Edinboro pair 8-1. They also advanced through the first round with a bye.
Mowrey did the same as Lee in both singles and doubles, advancing past the first round with a bye and winning in the second round. She beat an IUP athlete 6-3, 6-3 in singles. Mowrey joined forces with junior
Shannon Nixon (Wyncote, Pa. / Cheltenham) to move on in doubles with an 8-3 victory.
Day 2 begins on Sunday, and if the West Chester tennis players continue winning, they can advance to the final matches on Monday.
