The following is a statement from West Chester University Director of Athletics, Terry Beattie
Â
WEST CHESTER, Pa. - With today's announcement from the PSAC, coupled with WCU's decision to continue remote learning for the Fall 2020 semester, all athletic competitions have been suspended until December 31, 2020.
Â
The PSAC and WCU staff have been working hard these past few months planning for a safe return to athletics competition. This was not an easy decision, nor was it taken lightly, because we know how important athletics is and what it means to our student-athletes, coaches, staff and supporters. From day one, our priority has been the health and safety of our student-athletes, and we knew that all decisions would be made with that in mind. Still, it is a difficult day for so many that put their heart and soul into their sport. Please know that we are here to support and help everyone navigate this difficult time.
Â
While there are no guarantees, we are committed to giving our student-athletes the chance to compete during this academic year. We have already begun planning to provide a championship experience for all sports during the spring semester. More details on this will be forthcoming at a later date.
Â
In my close to 30 years in collegiate athletics, I have never experienced a time of such uncertainty. These are unprecedented times that require unprecedented decisions. Even though this fall will be unlike any fall in recent times, one thing will not change – our commitment to provide our student-athletes with the best possible experience no matter the circumstances.
Â
Together, we are and will remain Golden!
