Women’s Rugby Defeats American International College, 34-12

WEST CHESTER, PA –
The Golden Rams' women's rugby squad remained undefeated after their 34-12 win against American International College in a National Intercollegiate Women's Rugby (NIRA) match Wednesday afternoon.
 
West Chester (4-0, 2-0 NIRA) took the lead in the match when Autumn Czaplicki (Pillow, PA / Line Mountain) scored the first of her three trys on the day in the 10th minute.The conversion failed.
 
AIC (3-1, 1-1) fought back marking a try in the 16th minute to tie the score at five when the Yellow Jackets' try failed as well.
 
In the 32nd minute, Czaplicki scored her second try to steal back the lead. Julianna Aliprandi (Rockaway, NJ / Morris Hills) wrapped up the play with a successful conversion, making the score 12-5 at the half.
 
The energy spiked at the start of the second half when AIC scored a try and conversion in the 42nd minute to tie things up again.
 
Olyvia Eckard (East Petersburg, PA / Hempfield) retaliated and scored in the 47th minute. Aliprandi made her second successful conversion to top it off.
 
Aliprandi came back to claim a try in the 56th minute after the Yellow Jackets made an unsuccessful attempt to score.
 
AIC fouled in the 65th minute, and Eckard lifted the Golden Rams score to 27-12 after scoring on a penalty kick.
 
With only a minute left, Czaplicki ran the ball swiftly through the try-zone to score her third try of the game, she tallied 15 points for the match. Aliprandi recorded 11 points in 80 minutes after she pulled off her third conversion to end the game at 34-12.
 
AIC's squad fought hard for possession throughout the match, but the Golden Rams defense prevailed.
 
West Chester will be back on the home rugby pitch in two weeks to challenge Phoenixville Women's Club on Saturday, Oct. 23rd at 10 a.m.
