SPRINGFIELD, MASS – West Chester University's women's rugby team (2-3, 2-2) traveled to Massachusetts to take on American International College (4-1, 2-1) in an NIRA matchup on Friday, but fell short to the Yellow Jackets 59-10.
AIC started the scoring early on in the match, scoring a try in the second minute followed by a successful conversion to put the Yellow Jackets in the lead, 7-0.
The Yellow Jackets continued their lead over the Golden Rams for the first 20 minutes of the match, tallying a score of 21-0 until
Olyvia Eckard (East Petersburg, Pa./Hempfield) had a successful penalty kick to put West Chester on the board with three points (21-3).
AIC answered back scoring an additional seven points in the first 40.
With nearly seven minutes to go in the first half,
Faith Morley (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown West) scored the first and only try of the match for West Chester and Eckard followed it up with a successful conversion to make the score 28-10 heading into the halftime break.
West Chester kept its score of 10 for the entirety of the second half, while AIC scored five more trys and three conversions to give the Yellow Jackets a final 59-10 victory.
