Men's Track and Field Registers Strong Showing at DeSchriver Invitational

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa.-
The West Chester men's track and field squad returned to action on Saturday evening at the DeSchriver Invitational hosted by East Stroudsburg. The Golden Rams registered a pair of victories on the track, winning the 3k and 400 while registering a number of other strong showings on the afternoon.

Philip Smith registered a winning effort in the 3k, finishing with a time of 9 minutes and 1.53 seconds to lead the field in this event, which was also a new personal-best time.  Aaron Williams (Kirklyn, Pa./Upper Darby) also led the field in the 400 meters with a time of 51.50 seconds to win this event while also setting a new personal best time of his own. Additionally, Smith and Williams both registered PSAC Qualifying times with their performances in the 3k and 400, respectively. 

Chase Knorr (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) finished second in the 800 with a time of 2:00.45, which was also a new personal-best performance in addition to serving as a PSAC Qualifying time followed by Cole Smith in eighth with a time of 2:07.05 and Sean Fisher (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) in 10th with a time of 2:08.

In the mile, David Kramer (Washington Boro, Pa./Penn Manor) and Garrett Knorr (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) finished in third and fifth with times of 4:36.61 and 4:58.99, respectively. Knorr's time also allowed him to set a new personal best time in this event.

Tyrese Reid was fourth in the 55 meters with a time of 6.71 seconds, which was a new personal-best for him and a season-best for the Golden Rams followed by Amarre Mayo (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) and Terrence Gainer (West Chester, Pa./Downingtown West) in sixth and eighth in times of 6.76  and 6.83 seconds, respectively. Mayo and Gainer also both set new personal-best times in this event.

In the high jump, Michael Nieman (Lansdale, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) led the way for West Chester with an eighth place finish with a mark of 5 feet 10 ¾ inches while Xander Squire (Upper Chichester, Pa./Upper Chichester) finished second in the triple jump with a mark 41-11 ¼ while Zahir Madyun (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) was fifth with a mark of 39-7 while Jason Jablonski (Simpson, Pa./Carbondale) was eighth in 38-1 ¼.  

Tyrese Reid (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) was second in the long jump with a mark of 21-8 ¼, which was also a PSAC Qualifying mark while Madyun was third with a leap of 21-4 ¾ followed by Jablonski in 13th with a mark of 18-9, which was a new personal best for him as well.

Geraldo Medina (Willow Street, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) registered a strong showing in the weight throw, finishing seventh with a mark of 48-8 ¾. Medina also finished seventh in the shot put with a mark of 42-9 ¾ while Thomas Smith (Wallingford, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) was ninth in this event with a mark of 42-0 ½.

West Chester will be back in action next weekend at the Rutgers Indoor Invitational held inside the Armory in New York City.
