WEST CHESTER, Pa.- Chase Knorr (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) was a double winner, taking the 1500 and 800 to highlight an outstanding start to the 2022 outdoor track and field season for West Chester at the Golden Ram quad meet on Saturday.
Knorr started his day with a victory in the 1500 with a time of 4 minutes and 7.57 seconds before taking the 800 in a time of 1:59.03 both of which were personal best times for the Golden Ram senior.
Philip Smith was second in the 1500 with a time of 4:09.64, which set a new personal best time for him while
Orion Frazier (Roslyn, Pa./Abington) and
David Kramer (Washington Boro, Pa./Penn Manor) each registered top-five finishes in the 800 with times of 2:00.52 and 2:00.98, respectively.
In the 100,
Amarre Mayo (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) and
Jude Bourdeau (Hudson, Pa.James M. Loughlin) each registered top five finishes, finishing in second and fourth in times of 11.30 and 11.36, respectively.
In the 200, Mayo was second with a time of 23.11 seconds while Bourdeau was fourth in 23.19 seconds with
Chad Mowbray (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) in fifth with a time of 23.22 seconds.
In the 4x400, West Chester took the top spot, registering a time of 3:26.38 while it others 4x400 relay squad finished fourth in a time of 3:37.39.
In the long jump,
William Rivers (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) continued the momentum from his stellar indoor season, winning the event with a distance of 21 feet 4 ¾ inches while
Nick Page (Laurel, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) and
Tyrese Reid (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) were second and third with marks of 21-2 and 20-10 ¾ , respectively.
Zahir Madyun (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) and
Zyon Terry (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) also registered strong performances in this event, finishing fifth and sixth with marks of 20-8 ½ and 20-1, respectively.
In the high jump,
Michael Nieman (Lansdale, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) finished in a tie for first with a mark of 6-2 ¾ while
Andrew Puz (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) was third in the pole vault with a mark of 13-3 ½.
In the shot put,
Geraldo Medina (Willow Street, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) was third with a mark of 42-11 ½ while
Thomas Smith (Wallingford, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) was fourth with a mark of 42-2 ¼ .
These marks served as new personal bests in the shot put for both Medina and Smith. Medina also finished third in the hammer throw with a mark of 139-5 ¾, which is eighth best in program history.
Smith also led the way for West Chester in the discus, finishing fifth in this event with a mark of 106-1 while
Ben Thornton (Lincoln University, Pa./Salesianum) was sixth with a mark of 103-8 ½ .
In the javelin,
Jose Rivera (Ashley, Pa./E.L. Myers) led West Chester with a fourth-place finish with a mark of 167-3 ¾ while
Anthony Futrick (Sinking Springs, Pa./Wilson) was fifth with a mark of
166-9 ¼.
West Chester will be back in action on April 9
th in the Golden Ram Invitational inside John A. Farrell Stadium.
