Men's Track and Field Hosts Bill Butler Invitational; Claims Top Spot in Team Standings

WEST CHESTER, Pa.-
The West Chester men's track and field squad concluded its home schedule on Saturday afternoon in the Bill Butler Invitational inside John A. Farrell stadium on South Campus. West Chester won the meet with a final score of 139 points, edging out second-place Stockton who finished with 124 points.

Tyrese Reid (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) and Nick Page (Laurel, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) tied for second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.27, which set a new personal-best time for each of them while Amarre Mayo (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) was close behind, finishing in fifth with a time of 11.38 seconds. Mayo followed this up with a third-place finish in the 200 with a time of 22.87 seconds while Terrence Gainer (West Chester, Pa./Downingtown West) finished in the top-10 in both events, finishing seventh in the 100 in 11.48 before finishing eighth
in the 200 in 23.65, which was a new personal-best time for him as well.

In the 400, Jack Wasserman (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) earned a victory for WCU, finishing in a time of 50.44 seconds, which was a new personal best and PSAC qualifying time while Zahir Madyun (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) was sixth in 51.18 seconds. Orion Frazier (Roslyn, Pa./Abington) was sixth in the 800 with a time of 1:59.70, which was a new personal-best time for him while Chase Knorr (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) captured the 1500 with a time of 4:01.26, which was a new personal-best and PSAC qualifying time. Philip Smith also registered a top-five finish in the 1500, crossing the line in 4:03.53, which was also a new personal-best and PSAC qualifying time for himself as well to finish fifth in this event while Amir Cubbage (Glenside, Pa./Abington) was eighth in 4:10.83.

The 4x100 relay squad took first in their relay, finishing in a time of 42.65 seconds while the 4x400 relay teams took second and fifth with times of 3:26.15 and 3:35.65, respectively.

In the high jump, Michael Neiman (Lansdale, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) finished second with a mark of 6-6 ¾, which was a new personal-best while Andrew Puz (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) was second in the pole vault with a mark of 14-5 ¼ with Andrew Bosche (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) close behind in fourth with a mark of 13-11 ½.

Page continued his big day with a victory in the long jump, registering a mark of 23 feet, which was a new personal best to win this event while Reid and Terry finished in fifth and sixth with marks of 20-7 ¾ and 20-7, respectively.

In the triple jump, Will Rivers (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) finished second with a mark of 46-11 ¾ while Geraldo Medina (Willow Street, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) led the throwers with a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 44-8 ¼, which was a new personal-best mark him as well.

Ben Thornton (Lincoln University, Pa./Salesianum) was 10th in the shot put and 14th in the discus with marks of 34-11 and 110-10 ¾, respectively. Thornton's mark in the discus competition also set a new personal-best mark for him.

In the hammer throw, Anthony Futrick (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) led the way with a mark of 104-0, which was a new personal-best mark just ahead of Jose Rivera (Ashley, Pa./E.L. Myers) who was ninth with a mark of 98-0 ¾.

West Chester will be back in action on Wednesday evening at the Shippensburg Midweek Invitational.
