PRINCETON N.J. - West Chester women's rugby took two teams to the Princeton University 7's tournament on Saturday. The Golden Rams went 6-2 overall during the tournament with both the Purple and Gold teams finishing 3-1 on the afternoon.
The Purple team started out with wins against Boston University and the University of Delaware in pool play while being led by senior
Bayla Shindledecker (Clarksburg, PA / Saltsburg) and freshman
Ty Hickey (Harleysville, PA / Souderton). Six different Golden Rams scored trys in the UDel match as West Chester ran past the Blue Hens 34-0.
In the semifinals, West Chester fell to a very fast Princeton squad 21-19 in the final seconds.
In the consolation match, West Chester beat Boston University a second time by a score of 41-7.
The Gold team had also started out the day on a strong note by winning their first three matches against Boston University, The College of NJ, and Princeton University. Senior
Ciara DeMelo (Philadelphia, PA / Mount St. Josephs Academy) scored four trys on the day for the Golden Rams and
Emily Almoney (Delta, PA / Kennard-Dale) had two trys.
Elly Gorham (Alexandria, VA / Hayfield Secondary School) also converted five trys for the Gold team.
West Chester will be back in action next at the Army West Point 7's on April 30th.
