LOCK HAVEN, PA – Senior All-American and national champion swimmer
Ann Carozza (West Chester, Pa./East) was named to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Winter Top 10 list it was announced Tuesday afternoon.
The conference award, voted on by the league's sports information directors, is awarded to 10 student-athletes (five male/five female) each season with those recipients having to achieve a minimum of a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or key reserve with legitimate athletic credentials.
With her selection to the Winter Top 10, Carozza is now eligible for the PSAC Pete Nevins Scholar Athlete of the Year award, an honor given to the top overall PSAC student-athlete (male and female) at the end of the academic year.
Carozza, who broke two national records and won one individual national championship, becomes the 47th West Chester individual and the ninth women's swimmer to be named to the PSAC Winter Top 10 list. Carozza is the 23rd West Chester athlete to collect the honor in the winter season. It also marks the seventh consecutive season in which West Chester has been represented on the PSAC Top 10 list, dating back to the Spring 2015-16 campaign.
In her third year of intercollegiate competition, Carozza won four individual conference championships and three more as a member of a relay team en route to Swimmer of the Meet honors at the 2022 PSAC Swimming Championships. She won the 100- and 200-yard butterfly events, the 50 and 100 freestyle events and was part of the 200 and 400 medley relays as well as the 400 free relay that all won championships. In addition to all of that, she broke two conference records. All totaled, Carozza has eight individual PSAC titles and six relay crowns.
At nationals, Carozza continued to clean up, winning an NCAA Division II national championship in the 200 fly and setting a national record in both the 100 and 200 fly events. She is a seven-time All-American and holds six PSAC swimming records to date. Carozza was also named the PSAC Freshman of the Year in 2019, making her the fourth Golden Rams female swimmer to win both freshman of the year and athlete of the year in their careers (Kathrin Dumitru, Jackie Borkowski,
Georgia Wright).
