WEST HAVEN, CONN –
Heather Spangler (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) scored three trys and
Sarah McNicholas (Stony Point, NY/Albertus Magnus) registered six conversions to lead West Chester University to a 66-0 win on the road over New Haven in the team's season opener Sunday.
However, West Chester's defense shined on this day in the Nutmeg State. New Haven did not cross midfield very often as the Golden Rams applied the pressure and forced turnovers from the Chargers.
"We really starved UNH of possession time," WCU head coach
Tony DeRemer said. "We caused a lot of turnovers."

Brooke Crago (Moon Twp., Pa./Moon Twp.) scored a pair of trys in her first college start, and
Olyvia Eckerd (East Petersburg, Pa./Hempfield) recorded a pair of conversions. Freshman
Taylor Baldwin (Joppa, Md./Perry Hall Christian Academy) scored a try in her first college match.
"We had some great performances from our younger players, who stepped into starting roles," DeRemer added. "They are certainly going to be exciting players to watch, and today was a great example of their ability."
The Golden Rams had run out to a 59-0 lead by halftime, posting 19 points over a 10-minute span that made the outcome all but inevitable.
West Chester hosts Navy Saturday at 11 a.m. in the home opener for the Rugby 15's fall season.
