WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The West Chester women's rugby team (1-1) returned home on Saturday morning and battled throughout the match but fell to the visiting United States Naval Academy by a final of 20-10 on South Campus on Saturday morning.
Navy started the scoring early in the match, scoring a pair of trys and adding one conversion in the first 40 to take a 12-0 lead into the halftime break.
Running the ball swiftly into the try zone,
Heather Spangler (Gettysburg, Pa/Gettysburg) came back to claim a try in the 56th minute to put the Golden Rams on the board 5-17, not long after a third Navy try was scored by Ana Olszewski.
West Chester's second try of the match was scored by
Taylor Baldwin (Joppa, Md./Perry Hall Christian Academy) in the 70th minute to up the Golden Rams' score 10-17.
Navy prevailed for the remainder of the match, securing another three points after Nicole Deprey made a successful penalty kick to end the match with a 20-10 final score in favor of Navy.
