FROSTBURG, MD - West Chester University's women's rugby team picked up its first win of the young season with a 37-12 triumph on the road at Frostburg State Saturday afternoon. The first meeting between the two schools went the way of the Purple & Gold Saturday.
West Chester got on the board early in the match with a try by Old Line State native
Taylor Baldwin (Joppa, Md./Perry Hall Christian Academy) in the third minute. Â West Chester played much of the first half in the Bobcat's end of the field resulting in trys by
Katie Wallenburg (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee),
Brooke Crago (Moon Twp., Pa./Moon Area) and
Ty Hickey (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton).Â

Frostburg started the second half with a try, but that sparked a series of scores from the West Chester offense including the first career try for
Mia Moore (Havertown, Pa./Haverford).
Emma Davies (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) was the leading scorer for the Golden Rams adding three conversions and two penalty kicks for 12 points.Â

"The team was able to put in some full practices this week, and it showed at game time," WCU head coach
Tony DeRemer said. "We're starting to gel on offense and work as a unit on defense. I was very proud of the hard work and effort they put in this week."

Jade McCool (Huntington Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) recorded her first start for the Golden Rams. Â

The team has next weekend off before welcoming the AIC Yellow Jackets to West Chester on Saturday, October 7 at 3 p.m.
