Women's Volleyball to Visit Georgian Court on Monday Night for Non-League Finale

LAKEWOOD, N.J.- Following a thrilling 3-2 victory over Queens on Homecoming on Saturday afternoon, the West Chester University women’s volleyball team (10-11) takes to the road on Monday night for its non-conference finale in the Garden State at Georgian Court (12-8, 9-1) beginning at 6 p.m.

Last Time Out

West Chester enters play off an exciting 3-2 victory over Queens College in Hollinger Field House on Homecoming on Saturday afternoon. After controlling the opening set throughout, the Golden Rams captured the first set by a 25-21 final but dropped the next two, suddenly finding themselves in danger of a 3-1 setback in front of a solid Alumni Day crowd. West Chester roared back to win the fourth set by a 25-21 final and captured the fifth set by a 15-11 final to earn the 3-2 victory. Zoe Haines (York, Pa./York Suburban) led the way with 16 kills, while Anna Richardson (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) chipped in 12 of her own. Lacie Brown (Cochranville, Pa./Avon Grove) had an excellent day, finishing with 37 assists, 16 digs, eight kills, and three aces. Sydney Heffner (Bath, Pa./Northampton) led the way in digs with 16 in the victory. 

Flock Talk

Richardson and Haines remain first and second on the team in kills with 201 and 199, respectively, while Brown continues to lead the team in assists (577) and aces (28). Brown is also second on the team in digs with 283, trailing only Sydney Heffner (Bath, Pa./Northampton), who leads the team with 283. Nicole Dimiris (Hockessin, Del./Saint Mark’s) and Julia Kwitchoff (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) are tied for the team lead in blocks with 46.

Last of Its Kind

Monday night is West Chester's final non-league match of the year. The Golden Rams play their second of two straight non-conference matches after defeating Queens in five sets on Saturday afternoon.

Home Again, Home Again

Monday night will be the Golden Rams' final road match until a November 8 visit to East Stroudsburg. The Golden Rams return home this weekend for a pair of matches against Lock Haven and Bloomsburg. West Chester will be home for four of its final six matches of the year, beginning on Friday night against the Bald Eagles.

Series History

West Chester enters play on Monday night, 10-4, against Georgian Court since 2009, including a 3-1 victory in West Chester in 2022. West Chester has seven of eight against Georgian Court dating back to October 2014.

Scouting Georgian Court

Georgian Court enters play on Monday night with a record of 12-8 on the year and a mark of 9-1 in league play. Winners of five of its last six, including a 3-0 win over Bloomfield on Saturday afternoon, Georgian Court is also 2-1 against PSAC East competition, including a 3-1 victory over Kutztown and a 3-2 win over Millersville along with a 3-0 loss against East Stroudsburg last week.

On Saturday against Bloomfield, the Lions avoided a losing streak with a dominant 3-0 win over its guests, making short work of the Bears early on Saturday morning. Nylene Mateo led the way in kills (11) and blocks (4). Amari Morales led the team in aces with four, while Mateo chipped in two of her own. Iciar Zayas and Dayna Diaz led the team in assists with 17 and 16, while Giorgia Cappelletti led in digs with 10.

Mateo leads the team in kills on the year with 205, while Cappelletti is second with 166. Diaz and Zayas lead the team in assists with 312 and 277, while Cappelletti also leads the group in aces with 48. Carmen Rivera leads GCU in digs with 252, while Chelsea Ross is first in blocks with 81 already this season.
