Women's Rugby to Host Mount St. Mary's on Senior Day on Saturday Morning

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- The West Chester University women’s rugby team (4-3) is finishing its preparations for its regular-season finale at home against Mount St. Mary’s (0-6) on Saturday morning on South Campus. 

Fans are encouraged to expect heavy traffic due to the West Chester football game against Lock Haven beginning at 12 p.m. down the road from the rugby pitch. Fans are also encouraged to arrive early as Saturday will also serve as Senior Day for the Golden Rams; West Chester will honor its senior class in a special pregame ceremony.

Last Time Out

West Chester put its four-game winning streak to the test on October 19 vs NIRA rival Davenport. West Chester took an early lead when Brooke Crago (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) scored a long try in the first 10 minutes. Alyssa Miller (Philadelphia, Pa./Girard Music Academy) scored a try of her own late in the first half, but it was not enough to upset the Panthers, as WCU fell by a 65-14 final. 

Hot Streak

West Chester enters play as winners of four of its last five after seeing its four-game winning streak halted by Davenport on October 19. Entering that matchup, West Chester was on its longest winning streak since 2021, when the team went unbeaten through the regular season before falling to AIC in the National Championship match.

Just Getting Warmed Up

Christelle Adikpeto (Abomey Calavi, Benin/Moon Area) is in the midst of an excellent rookie season, ranking first on the team in trys with 35 for 35 points on the year, which is second, trailing only Emma Davies (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett), who leads with 48 points with 13 conversions, four penalty kicks, and a pair of trys. 

Offensive Firepower

West Chester outscored its opponents 215-58 during its four-game winning streak, including a historic 111-0 victory over Kutztown on the road earlier in October. 

Home Sweet Home

West Chester plays its second of two straight at home to end its regular season. The team beat Frostburg State 44-3 in its home opener on September 21 before falling to Davenport 65-14 on October 19. 

Thank You Seniors

Before Saturday’s match, West Chester will honor its Senior Class for all they have accomplished in their Golden Ram careers.

West Chester is 4-0 against Mount St. Mary’s in 15s play, dating back to October 2017. West Chester has outscored the Mount 153-52 in these four meetings, including a 32-19 win in November 2019 on South Campus. 

Scouting Mount St. Mary’s

Mount St. Mary’s enters play looking for its first win of the year, showing a record of 0-6 vs. Division I competition, being outscored 480-26, including a 49-12 loss to Princeton last week in its closest match to this point. Monet Hubbard scored both trys for the Mountaineers, and Shaniah Mayers added a conversion in the Mount’s Senior Day setback.
